In a controlled experiment with 22 participants, nearly 50% were willing to engage with the AI chatbot, compared to less than 20% who responded positively to human scammers. The AI's ability to create personalized messages and mimic human interactions significantly enhances its effectiveness in scamming, raising the success rate for persuading individuals to download malicious software to 46%, versus 18% for human counterparts.
