In response, PJM has halted new applications for power generation connections due to a backlog, signaling a critical juncture for energy management. A report from BloombergNEF projects that by 2035, data centers could consume one-fifth of the total electricity generated in the U.S., a fourfold increase from current levels, primarily due to the growing needs for AI training and inference.
